Ranging from organic shapes to abstract images, my practice reveals my perception of the body in today’s globalised society and it questions the female body when subjected to change, such as the act of covering and uncovering. The work explores and brings together issues such as gender, identity and aesthetics and the various meanings they can assume. Constantly changing and therefore altering its wholeness, the body is understood as a battle-field of gender representation and loaded with deep and complex socio-political values. The subject/object of a ‘never ending and always becoming’ process, it is configured as a map of reality: indeed, everything happens on the skin, causing tension and fusion internally and externally.
Having virtual references mainly inspired from science-fiction novels and internet images and painting them spontaneously is a key experience in my work, as I consciously portray aspects that are both intentional and specifically happening within the sheer experience of painting. This process encourages a dialogue between the canvas and me.
