"My Favorite Things" started in 2016 as a small group exhibition, showing the artworks of 3 chosen women artists; featured by Mashrabia as the revelation of the season. In due course, “My Favorite Things” became an inclusive annual exhibition promoting and supporting up and coming women artists in Egypt. Its main aim is to guarantee for women to have a permanent and safe space, for exposure and free expression, maintaining a high artistic quality based on originality and innovative thought. There is no restriction to themes, as we seek authentic artwork that is most true, essentially reflecting subjects of great importance to the artists. This year's selection features 27 artists: Aya El Hussieny, Aya El Zawawy, Farida Mahdy, Farida Samir, Fatma AboDoma, Fatma Al Zahraa Hassan, Habiba El Gazzar, Hanna Gawad, Hanan Ramadan, Heba Abu El Ella, Heba Tarek, Heidi Ezzat, Lamis Alsayed, Leila Eissa, Mai Aboassi, Malak El Shazly, Maria Bassem, Mariam Essam, Miray Ishak, Nada El Ramly, Nadine Abdelkhalek, Nadine El Kholi, Nouran Zayed, Radwa Yasser, Reem El Hefnawy, Rehab Ayman, Sayeda Misa Sourour, most of them participating for the first time.

يسعدنا بقاعة مشربية للفن المعاصر استضافة معرضنا "أشيائي المفضلة" لتاسع سنة على التوالي مع مجموعة من الفنانات، حيث بدأ معرض أشيائي المفضلة كمعرض صغير في 2016 يضم ثلاثة أعمال مختارة لثلاثة فنانات إلا أنه مع مرور الوقت تطور إلى أن أصبح معرض هدفه الأساسي دعم و إعطاء مساحة آمنة للفنانات للتعبير عن رأيهم وما يؤمنون به. المعرض لا يقتصر على مواضيع محددة بل يطمح لعرض أعمال صادقة تعكس كل ما هو مهم لكل فنانة.

Mashrabia Gallery of Contemporary Art is pleased to present the third edition of Menawwareen, a group exhibition that brings together light-based works exploring illumination as both material and metaphor. Following the 2004 and 2019 editions, this iteration focuses on contemporary practices that engage light as an active agent through illumination, shadow, color, movement, and interaction.
Across installations, sculptural light works, and digital interventions, light is treated not only as a source of visibility but as a carrier of memory, atmosphere, and transformation. The works examine how light reveals and conceals, how it shapes space, and how it alters our perception of time and presence. Flash, glow, and shadow become performative elements, blurring the boundaries between the physical and the ephemeral. In these installations, light remains unstable constantly shifting, dissolving, and re-forming, mirroring the fragility and temporality of lived experience.
Together, the artists propose light as a language that transcends disciplines and sensibilities. The exhibition invites viewers to move through illuminated environments where seeing becomes a temporal act, and meaning emerges in moments of pause, transition, and quiet intensity.
Presented during the month of Ramadan, Menawwareen III brings together Egyptian and Egypt-based artists and designers experimenting with light across sculptural, conceptual, and mixed-media practices. This year’s edition features works by EmmaJane Geyer, Aya Tarek, Israa Kazem, Xenia Nikolskaya, Rana Ahmed, Amr Elngmah, Alexandra Stock, Hala Abu Shady, Salma Baset, and Hana Osama. Collectively, their contributions offer a compelling reflection on the evolving landscape of contemporary art in Egypt today.

Magnificent Creatures imagines radiant invincible beings whose beauty dazzles and their indifference chills. They stand on our shoulders and hover behind the unseen wall, arriving with force, slicing through our world. Nothing resists them; nothing concerns them. Dancing and howling, they are seductive and mesmerizing. Beneath the ornament and dance lies a calm that is vast and unmoved. Their bodies bloom with iridescent color and swirl into impossible architectures, shifting ecosystems that unfold and collapse.  Their presence alone reshapes everything around them. They are beautiful  and bewitching, you want to praise them and sing their songs but they do not notice. They cut through our fears and desires like light passing through water. They represent what we long for and everything we dread. Their conflicts and celebrations and rituals are not for us. Everlasting, enormous, ecstatic, alive and indifferent.

Working in oil on canvas, the work is created through slow revisions, and forms that appear and dissolve and eventually reform into their final state. 

This series invites viewers to meet these cosmic giants as Marwan meet them: with fascination, fear and a willingness to see behind the veil and into this dark sky, of what does not need our approval to exist.


About the Artist: Born in 1990, Marwan El Gamal is an Egyptian contemporary artist. His interdisciplinary practice spans painting, animation, and text with an interest in depicting the loss of the familiar through imagined storytelling and alternate remembrance. Interested in the driving of culture and how images, stories, and traditions instill identity, he seeks to explore coherent narratives of the identity of the self and society by disrupting these anchor points of recognition as he draws from history, mythology, pop culture, archetypes, and personal memory. 

Invoking the mysterious, the uncanny, and otherworldly, his work depicts realms outside of recognizable locations and time, alternative maps for the viewer to experience novel connections with themselves and the world. The work seeks to place an indefiniteness to events where change is constant, addressing contradiction, resolution, familiarity, and foreignness.

تتخيل ”كائنات مدهشة” كائنات متألقة لا تقهر، تبهج العين بجمالها وتثير الرعب بلا مبالاته. تقف على أكتافنا وتحوم خلف الجدار غير المرئي، تصل بقوة ويخترق عالمنا. لا شيء يقاومها؛ لا شيء يهمها. ترقص وتصرخ، فهي مغرية وساحرة. تحت الزخرفة والرقص يكمن هدوء شاسع وثابت. تزهر أجسادها بألوان قزحية وتدور في هياكل معمارية مستحيلة، وتغير النظم البيئية التي تتكشف وتنهار.  وجودها وحده يعيد تشكيل كل شيء من حولها. إنها جميلة  ومثيرة، وتريد أن تمدحها وتغني أغانيها، لكنها لا تلاحظ ذلك. تخترق مخاوفنا ورغباتنا مثل الضوء الذي يمر عبر الماء. إنها تمثل ما نشتاق إليه وكل ما نخشاه. صراعاتها واحتفالاتها وطقوسها ليست لنا. أبدية، هائلة، منتشية، حية، وغير مبالية.
تم إنشاء العمل بالزيت على قماش، من خلال مراجعات بطيئة، وأشكال تظهر وتختفي وتشكل في النهاية شكلها النهائي. 
تدعو هذه السلسلة المشاهدين إلى مقابلة هؤلاء العمالقة الكونين كما يقابلهم مروان: بانبهار وخوف ورغبة في رؤية ما وراء الحجاب وفي هذا السماء المظلمة، لما لا يحتاج إلى موافقتنا لكي يوجد.


عن الفنان: مواليد 1990، مروان الجمال فنان مصري معاصر. تمتد ممارسته متعددة التخصصات لتشمل الرسم والرسوم المتحركة والنص، مع اهتمام بتصوير فقدان المألوف من خلال سرد القصص الخيالية والذكريات البديلة. مهتمًا بدوافع الثقافة وكيف تغرس الصور والقصص والتقاليد الهوية، يسعى إلى استكشاف روايات متماسكة عن هوية الذات والمجتمع من خلال تعطيل نقاط الارتكاز هذه للتعرف، حيث يستمد من التاريخ والأساطير والثقافة الشعبية والأر خيتي بايت والذاكرة الشخصية. 


تستحضر أعماله الغموض والغرابة والغيب، وتصور عوالم خارج المواقع والزمن المعروفين، وخرائط بديلة للمشاهد لكي يختبر روابط جديدة مع نفسه ومع العالم. تسعى الأعمال إلى إضفاء عدم تحديد على الأحداث التي يتغير فيها كل شيء باستمرار، وتتناول التناقض والحل والمألوف والغريب.

It is within these lines by Baudelaire that the Essam’s work finds its origin and strength. Their paradoxes and strangeness resonate deeply with the hidden forces of the artist’s imagination. They speak of contradiction, duality, and the eternal tension between submission and rebellion  themes that pulse through the Essam’s canvases.

In these paintings, the rhythm and musicality of Baudelaire’s words are transposed into color and form. Scattered fragments of life are reassembled into unusual, dreamlike worlds where characters embody conflicting worldviews: they dissolve and reappear, oppose and embrace, wound and heal.

Through this interplay of harmony and rupture, the exhibition The Knife and the Apple explores the fragile balance between freedom and constraining  the space where creative energy is both born and tested. It is within this space that the artist reveals the poetry of conflict, and the beauty that emerges from contradiction.


About the Artist: Essam Alaa is a young artist who lives and works between Cairo and France, dividing his time between the vibrant district of Bulaq Dakror, Maadi where he has been painting for more than ten years, and France where he regularly exhibits. He develops a figurative, free, and poetic style. His first exhibition in 2019 in Maadi was a great success, particularly with the French community, followed in 2021 by an exhibition at Mashrabia Gallery. Inspired by Khalil Gibran, he presented a notable project at Mashrabia in 2023. In 2024 and 2025, he took part in group exhibitions at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo and in Cape Town, and also presented his work in France during the summer. His practice is constantly evolving, blending cultural memory and personal reflection, and in 2020 he founded an artistic initiative to support young talents. His paintings explore human emotion with vivid sincerity and poetic depth.

في هذه السطور لبودلير تجد أعمال عصام أصلها وقوتها. تتردد مفارقتها وغرابتها بعمق في القوى الخفية لخيال الفنان. تتحدث عن التناقض والازدواجية والتوتر الأبدي بين الخضوع والتمرد  وهي مواضيع تنبض في لوحات عصام.
في هذه اللوحات، يتم تحويل إيقاع وموسيقى كلمات بودلير إلى لون وشكل. تُعاد تجميع شظايا الحياة المتناثرة في عوالم غير عادية تشبه الأحلام، حيث تجسد الشخصيات رؤى متضاربة للعالم: فهي تتلاشى وتظهر من جديد، وتتعارض وتتصالح، وتجرح وتشفي. 
من خلال هذا التفاعل بين الانسجام والانقسام، تستكشف معرض ”السكين والتفاحة“ التوازن الهش بين الحرية والقيود، وهو الفضاء الذي تولد فيه الطاقة الإبداعية وتُختبر. في هذا الفضاء، يكشف الفنان عن شاعرية الصراع والجمال الذي ينبثق من التناقض.

عن الفنان: عصام علاء فنان شاب يعيش ويعمل بين القاهرة وفرنسا، حيث يقسّم وقته بين حي بولاق الدكرور، والمعادي حيث يرسم منذ أكثر من عشر سنوات، وفرنسا حيث يعرض أعماله بانتظام. يطور أسلوباً تصويرياً حراً وشاعرياً. أقام أول معرض له عام 2019 في المعادي وحقق نجاحاً كبيراً، خاصة لدى الجالية الفرنسية، تلاه معرض في جاليري مشربية عام 2021. مستلهماً من جبران خليل جبران، قدّم مشروعاً لافتاً في مشربية عام 2023. في عام 2024 و2025 شارك في معارض جماعية بالمتحف المصري الكبير في القاهرة ومدينة كيب تاون، كما عرض أعماله في فرنسا خلال الصيف. يتطور عمله باستمرار، جامعاً بين الذاكرة الثقافية والتأمل الشخصي، وقد أسس عام 2020 مبادرة فنية لدعم المواهب الشابة. لوحاته تستكشف المشاعر الإنسانية بصدق حيّ وعمق شعري.

The city is held together by places some convenient, others less so; those illuminated by intense light and those quietly lingering in the shadows. Whether public or personal, these spaces often go unnoticed, their slow transformation eclipsed by the rapid pace of life. In a city as chaotic and densely populated as Cairo, it becomes difficult to recognize subtle changes or appreciate moments that are not monumental. Yet time continues to move through these settings, shaping them day by day.
By looking back into the past or simply acknowledging the present, we are reminded that while people come and go, the places themselves endure.



About the Artist: Yehia Seyam’s practice introduces a contemporary blend of modern impressionism and abstract expressionism, brought to life through dramatic experimentation with color, form, and texture. At just 24 years old, he pushes the boundaries of conventional aesthetics, continuously exploring new directions that move between rigidity and abstraction. The eight paintings on display embody this pursuit, offering a fresh visual perspective that prioritizes emotional depth, creativity, and artistic ingenuity.

تترابط المدينة من خلال أماكن بعضها ملائم والبعض الآخر أقل ملاءمة؛ تلك التي تضيئها الأضواء الساطعة وتلك التي تظل في الظل بهدوء. سواء كانت عامة أو خاصة، غالبًا ما تمر هذه الأماكن دون أن يلاحظها أحد، حيث تطغى وتيرة الحياة السريعة على تحولها البطيء. في مدينة فوضوية ومكتظة بالسكان مثل القاهرة، يصعب ملاحظة التغييرات الطفيفة أو تقدير اللحظات غير المهمة. ومع ذلك، يستمر الزمن في الماضي قدمًا عبر هذه الأماكن، ويشكلها يومًا بعد يوم.بالنظر إلى الماضي أو ببساطة بالاعتراف بالحاضر، نتذكر أن الناس يأتون ويذهبون، أما الأماكن نفسها فتبقى.


عن الفنان: تقدم أعمال يحيى سيام مزيجًا معاصرًا من الانطباعية الحديثة والتعبيرية التجريدية، والتي تكتسب حيويتها من خلال التجريب الدرامي بالألوان والأشكال والأنسجة. في عمر الـ 24 عامًا فقط، يوسع سيام حدود الجماليات التقليدية، ويستكشف باستمرار اتجاهات جديدة تتراوح بين الصلابة والتجريد. تجسد اللوحات الثماني المعروضة هذا السعي، وتقدم منظورًا بصريًا جديدًا يولي الأولوية للعمق العاطفي والإبداع والابتكار الفني.

يسعدنا أن نعلن عن معرض "كل شيء عنها"، الذي سيقام في فندق هيلتون القاهرة جراند نايل، في إطار تعاوننا الأول مع SheArts.

Amre Heiba paints as spontaneously as he lives, allowing his brush to follow the rhythm of his everyday life. Extending the narratives of his previous exhibitions "Alexandria Blues" and "Every Street, A Story", his new body of work continues to act as a mirror reflecting the quiet contradictions of daily existence.

The key to his paintings lies in a personal alphabet, an evolving vocabulary of symbols drawn from his immediate surroundings: the clutter of his workroom, the overlooked corners of the street, the ghosts of Alexandria itself. These chosen elements coexist on the canvas much like they do in his own life, sometimes in harmony, sometimes in tension, but always in dialogue.

In this series, the recurring motif of empty blue rooms evokes both solitude and serenity, a suspended space between presence and absence. These liminal interiors, washed in shades of melancholy blue, become emotional landscapes that embody the "blues" not merely as a color, but as a state of being.

Amid these spaces, mummies an ancient Egyptian iconography, not as relics of the past, but as living metaphors for continuity, decay, and rebirth. The symbolism of death intertwines with everyday life, echoing the artist’s reflection on time, memory, and the persistence of history in the contemporary psyche. Cats, ever-watchful and enigmatic, recur as silent witnesses within these compositions, bridging the sacred and the mundane, the living and the dead.

Ultimately, these paintings are intimate diaries in pigment, records of observation and emotion, where each brushstroke becomes a gesture of both remembrance and renewal.



About the Artist: Amre Heiba, born in Alexandria 1962, graduated from the Faculty of Science in 1984. The artist began working with an art group at the Goethe Institute in 1979, and he has been participating in exhibitions since then. He studied graphic design in Münster - Germany 1986-1989. The artist has participated in many international events as well as many solo exhibitions. He has held over 17 solo exhibitions around Egypt. He is a member of L'Atelier, the Syndicate of Visual Artists, and Fikrun wa Fann Gallery at the Goethe Institute in Alexandria.

يرسم عمرو هيبة بنفس العفوية التي يعيش بها، ويسمح فرشاته بأن تتبع إيقاع حياته اليومية. امتدادًا روايات معارضه السابقة ”ألكسندريا بلوز“ و”كل شارع، قصة“، تواصل أعماله الجديدة دورها كمرآة تعكس التناقضات الهادئة للوجود اليومي.
يكمن مفتاح لوحاته في أبجدية شخصية، وهي مفردات متطورة من الرموز المستمدة من محيطه المباشر: فوضى غرفة عمله، زوايا الشوارع المهملة، أشباح الإسكندرية نفسها. تتعايش هذه العناصر المختارة على القماش كما تتعايش في حياته أحيانًا في وئام، وأحيانًا في توتر، ولكن دائمًا في حوار.
في هذه السلسلة، يثير الموضوع المتكرر للغرف الزرقاء الفارغة الشعور بالوحدة والصفاء، وهو فضاء معلق بين الوجود والغياب. هذه المساحات الداخلية الحدية، المغسولة بظلال من اللون الأزرق الحزين، تصبح مناظر طبيعية عاطفية تجسد ”الزرقاء“ ليس فقط كلون، بل كحالة من حالات الوجود.
وسط هذه المساحات، تظهر المومياوات، وهي أيقونات مصرية قديمة، ليس كآثار من الماضي، بل كاستعارات حية للاستمرارية والانحلال والولادة من جديد. تتشابك رمزية الموت مع الحياة اليومية، مرددة تأملات الفنان حول الزمن والذاكرة واستمرار التاريخ في النفس المعاصرة. تتكرر القطط، اليقظة والغامضة دائماً، كشهود صامتين داخل هذه التراكيب، تربط بين المقدس والدنيوي، بين الأحياء والأموات.
في النهاية، هذه اللوحات هي مذكرات حميمة بالألوان، سجلات للملاحظة والعاطفة، حيث تصبح كل ضربة فرشاة إيماءة للذكرى والتجديد.

عن الفنانة: عمرو هيبة، ولد في الإسكندرية عام 1962، وتخرج من كلية العلوم عام 1984. بدأ الفنان العمل مع مجموعة فنية في معهد جوته عام 1979، وشارك في معارض منذ ذلك الحين. درس التصميم الجرافيكي في مونستر - ألمانيا 1986-1989. شارك الفنان في العديد من الفعاليات الدولية بالإضافة إلى العديد من المعارض الفردية. أقام أكثر من 17 معرضًا فرديًا في أنحاء مصر. وهو عضو في L'Atelier ونقابة الفنانين التشكيليين ومعرض Fikrun wa Fann في معهد جوته بالإسكندرية.

Ahmed Yasser’s work begins with his shoe, a poster showing his own burned New Balance shoe, a sarcastic and ironic image from which a coal-like flower grows.

The journey of a shoe from the city’s asphalte to the desert, Yasser summarises the current scene of Egypt through multiple contexts and the relationship between the environment, behaviour and the state of being. Each of his works reflects the New Balance, the law of his personal shoe. The distorted understanding of love, work and the economic pressures leading to the explosion of modern-day slavery.

The image of the Talabat worker, riding a broken bicycle for meager pay, becomes an emblem of modern slavery: a system that binds the pursuit of profit with the pain of exploitation, creating a masochistic society. This expanded journey unfolds in surreal imagery: flowers sprouting from fiery lava, petroleum turned romantic, human plants, a giant lizard smoking hash, a plastic flower glued to a tar wall, barbed wire stained with color. These fragments form a narrative thread of contradiction and endurance.

“We live in it and grow from it,” Yasser suggests. To exist within this system, one must first become its captive. This paradox “you must be a slave to be free” is his new balance, the law of the shoe.


About the Artist: Ahmed Yasser (b.1997) is an Egyptian artist whose passion for the arts ignited early in his life. Being a self-taught artist, Yasser drew inspiration from a multitude of books and sources. Initially engaged in various non-art-related occupations, he transitioned to a full-time commitment to art approximately five years ago. Since then, Yasser has showcased his works in various exhibitions, notably those hosted by venues such as Mashrabia Gallery of Contemporary Art, Medrar, and Ard Institution.

أحمد ياسر يبدأ عمله بحذائه، وهو ملصق يظهر حذائه المحروق من ماركة نيو بالانس وهي صور ساخرة تنمو منها زهرة تشبه الفحم.


في راحلة الحذاء من الأسفلت إلى الصحراء، ياسر يلخص المشهد الحالي في مصر من خلال سياقات متعددة و العلاقات بين البيئة والسلوك وحالة الوجود. تعكس كل أعماله نيو بالانس، قانون حذائه الشخصي. الفهم المشوه عن الحب، و العمل و الضغوط الاقتصادية التي تؤدي إلى انفجار العبودية الحديثة.

تصبح صورة عامل طالبات الذي يركب دارجة مكسوره مقابل أجر زهيد، رمزاً للعبودية الحديثة: نظام يربط السعي وراء الربح بألم الاستغلال، مما يخلق مجتمعاً مازوخياً. تتكشف هذه الراحلة الموسعة في صور سريالية: أزهار تنبت من الحمم البركانية، بترول يتحول إلى رومانسية، نباتات بشرية، سحلية عملاقة تدخن الحشيش، زهرة بلاستيكية ملتصقة بجدار قطراني، أسلاك شائكة ملطخة بالألوان. تشكل هذه الأجزاء خيطًا سرديًا من التناقض والتحمل.

يقترح ياسر: ”نحن نعيش فيه وننمو منه“. لكي توجد داخل هذا النظام، يجب أن تصبح أولاً أسيرًا له. هذه المفارقة ”يجب أن تكون عبدًا لتكون حرًا“ هي توازنه الجديد، قانون الحذاء.


عن الفنان: أحمد ياسر (مواليد 1997) هو فنان مصري اشتعلت شغفه بالفنون في مرحلة مبكرة من حياته. كونه فنانًا عصاميًا، استمد ياسر إلهامه من العديد من الكتب والمصادر. بعد أن عمل في البداية في وظائف مختلفة لا علاقة لها بالفن، انتقل إلى العمل بدوام كامل في مجال الفن منذ حوالي خمس سنوات. منذ ذلك الحين، عرض ياسر أعماله في العديد من المعارض، لاسيما تلك التي استضافتها أماكن مثل معرض مشربية للفن المعاصر، ومدرار، ومؤسسة أرد.

Sarah Zaki’s work explores the instability of identity in today’s social environment, where perception often outweighs reality and the self becomes something constantly negotiated, shaped, distorted, or silenced by society’s stories. Inspired by German Expressionism, she uses distorted forms, intense color, and theatrical gestures to surface emotional tension. Her fragmented, mask-like figures reveal the performative, constructed nature of visibility.


This exhibition brings together paintings and bronze sculptures to express different registers of emotional and psychological intensity. Rather than offering fixed interpretations, each piece acts as a psychological sketch, a trace of feeling or transformation. Emotions are treated as raw, shifting material within broader social realities. Though rooted in personal experience, the work invites reflection on how we are seen and how we see. It doesn’t demand resolution; it opens space for engagement.


There is no fixed message or stable identity, just visual propositions that move between thought and feeling. Ambiguity is intentional, even when meaning eludes the artist. At its core, her practice is an ongoing search for what it means to exist within a body, an identity, and a world that demands coherence. But the self drifts, fragments, and contradicts. Her work holds the pieces up to the light, without seeking resolution.


About the Artist: Sarah Zaki, an Italo-Egyptian visual artist, was born in Pietrasanta, Italy, in 1991 and later relocated to Cairo, where she pursued studies in Marketing and International Business. With a lifelong passion for drawing, she deepened her artistic practice at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, where she specialized in Painting.


Working across a variety of mediums—photography, sculpture, graphic design, and painting—Sarah gravitates toward oil and acrylic techniques to explore themes of identity, culture, and emotion. Her art often centers on female figures and portraits, reflecting the layered complexities of womanhood as influenced by her multicultural upbringing.


After spending four years in Berlin, an experience that broadened her creative perspective, Sarah returned to Cairo in 2022 to fully dedicate herself to her studio practice.

يستكشف عمل سارة زكي هشاشة الهوية في السياق الاجتماعي المعاصر، حيث تطغى التصورات على الواقع وتصبح "الذات" مساحة دائمة للتفاوض. تهتم بالفجوة بين التجربة الداخلية والتوقعات الخارجية وكيف تتشكل الحقيقة الشخصية أو تتشوه أو يُسكَت عنها من خلال السرديات التي يفرضها المجتمع.


تستلهم في عملها من التعبيرية الألمانية، وتوظّف المبالغة البصرية من خلال الأشكال المشوّهة، الألوان المشبعة، والإيماءات المسرحية لكشف التوتر العاطفي على سطح اللوحة. غالباً ما تظهر الشخصيات التي تصوّرها بشكل مقنّع أو مجزأ، لتعكس التناقضات وتعقيد الهوية تحت المراقبة الاجتماعية. هذه الأقنعة لا تُخفي، بل تُظهر الطبيعة الأدائية والمصطنعة لكيفية رؤيتنا لذواتنا.


يتضمن هذا المعرض مجموعة من اللوحات والتماثيل البرونزية، لا يسعى عملها إلى تقديم تفسير واحد، بل يحتفي بالتناقض. كل عمل بمثابة مسودة نفسية أقرب إلى أثر شعور أو تحوّل داخلي منه إلى بورتريه ثابت. المشاعر لا تُجمَّل أو تُزيَّن، بل تُعامَل كمادة خام، حيّة ومتحركة، ومرتبطة ببُنى اجتماعية أوسع. ورغم أن العمل ينطلق من تجربة شخصية، إلا أنه يفتح المجال أمام المتلقي للتأمل في طرق الرؤية والانكشاف. لا يفرض استنتاجات أو أجوبة، بل يدعو إلى التفاعل والمشاركة. 
لا توجد رسالة نهائية أو هوية ثابتة هنا، بل مقترحات بصرية تتحرك بين الفكر والشعور. الغموض مقصود، حتى وإن استعصى معناه أحياناً على الفنانة نفسها.

في جوهر ممارستها، تنطلق الفنانة في بحث مستمر حول معنى الوجود داخل الجسد والهوية والعالم الذي يفرض علينا الاتساق والانصياع. 

عن الفنانة: سارة زكي، فنانة تشكيلية إيطالية-مصرية، ولدت في بيترا سانتا، إيطاليا، عام 1991، ثم انتقلت لاحقًا إلى القاهرة، حيث درست التسويق والأعمال الدولية. شغوفة الرسم منذ صغرها، عمقت ممارستها الفنية في أكاديمية الفنون الجميلة في كارارا، حيث تخصصت في الرسم.

تعمل سارة عبر مجموعة متنوعة من الوسائط - التصوير الفوتوغرافي والنحت والتصميم الجرافيكي والرسم - وتنجذب إلى تقنيات الزيت والاكريليك لاستكشاف موضوعات الهوية والثقافة والعاطفة. غالبًا ما تركز فيها على الشخصيات النسائية واللوحات الشخصية، مما يعكس التعقيدات المتعددة للأنوثة المتأثرة بتربيتها متعددة الثقافات.

بعد قضاء أربع سنوات في برلين، وهي تجربة وسعت آفاقها الإبداعية، عادت سارة إلى القاهرة في عام 2022 لتكريس نفسها بالكامل لممارستها الفنية في الاستوديو.

"Echos and Currents: 35 Years of Contemporary Art at Mashrabia Gallery" reflects on the gallery’s ongoing presence within Cairo’s contemporary art landscape over the past three and a half decades. Rather than a traditional retrospective, the exhibition offers a space to revisit the gallery’s journey alongside the many artists who have shaped its story, both established and emerging.
Since its founding, Mashrabia Gallery has remained committed to providing consistent support to young artists, as well as highlighting the voices of women artists whose practices have often challenged and expanded the field. The gallery has also sought to build meaningful connections between local and international art scenes through participation in international art fairs and collaborations that have introduced Egyptian artists to wider audiences and welcomed global artists into the Cairo context.
This exhibition provides a space for reflection on shared histories and ongoing conversations. It approaches the archive not as something fixed, but as something open, formed by memory, dialogue, and the many relationships that continue to evolve within and around the gallery.

35 عامًا من الفن المعاصر في مشربية جاليري: يعكس هذا المعرض الحضور المستمر للجاليري ضمن مشهد الفن المعاصر في القاهرة على مدار العقود الثلاثة والنصف الماضية. يقدم المعرض مساحة لإعادة النظر في رحلة الجاليري جنباً إلى جنب مع العديد من الفنانين الذين شكلوا قصته.
منذ تأسيسه، ظل جاليري مشربية ملتزماً بتقديم دعم مستمر للفنانين الشباب، بالإضافة إلى تسليط الضوء على أصوات الفنانات اللواتي غالباً ما تحدت ممارساتهن هذا المجال ووسعته. كما سعى الجاليري إلى بناء روابط بين المشهدين الفنيين المحلي والدولي من خلال المشاركة في المعارض الفنية الدولية والتعاونات التي قدمت الفنانين المصريين لجمهور أوسع ورحبت بفنانين عالميين في سياق القاهرة.
يقدم هذا المعرض مساحة للتفكير في التواريخ المشتركة والحوارات المستمرة. من خلال التعامل مع الأرشيف كشيء مفتوح يتشكل بالذاكرة والحوار والعلاقات العديدة التي تستمر في التطور داخل وخارج الجاليري.

"What Remains?" brings together three artists--Fatma Abodoma, Farah ElMoatassem, & Melanie Partamian—whose works emerge from personal geographies and fragmented archives. Moving between memory, identity, and space, the exhibition unfolds across three interconnected spaces: the constant, the transitional, and the reimagined.
In the Constant, we are grounded in the familiarity of home, where stitched textiles and intimate objects from Upper Egypt evoke stability and rootedness.

The Transitional turns our attention to what is often overlooked—self-seeded plants, anonymous photographs, and urban fragments—questioning visibility, ownership, and archival ethics.

The Reimagined Space offers a series of imagined postcards and a constructed home video, family history is reassembled from absence. Fiction becomes a way of filling in, of making space where something was lost.

"What Remains?" does not unfold as a single story. Instead, it shifts across temporal and emotional terrains—between what endures, what changes, and what must be imagined. This exhibition invites us to consider the fragile and shifting nature of memory, how it is preserved, interrupted, and reconstructed across generations and landscapes. What survives the passage of time? Who decides what is remembered, and how?

يجمع "ما تبقى" ثلاثة فنانين (فاطمة أبو دومة, فرح المعتصم, و ميلاني بارطميان) تتقاطع أعمالهم مع الجغرافيات الشخصية والأرشيفات المجزأة. يتنقل المعرض بين الذاكرة والهوية والمكان، ويتكشف المعرض عبر ثلاث مساحات مترابطة: الثابتة، والانتقالية، والمتخيلة.
في المساحة الثابتة، نجد أنفسنا في مألوفية البيت، حيث تنقل المنسوجات المطرزة والأغراض الحميمة من صعيد مصر إحساسًا بالاستقرار والجذور.
المساحة الانتقالية توجه انتباهنا إلى ما يُهمل غالبًا—نباتات تنمو من تلقاء نفسها، صور فوتوغرافية بلا هوية، وشظايا عمرانية—لتُطرح تساؤلات حول الرؤية، والملكية، وأخلاقيات الأرشفة.
أما المساحة المتخيلة، فتقدّم مجموعة من البطاقات البريدية المفترضة وفيديو منزلي مركب، حيث يُعاد بناء التاريخ العائلي من الغياب. يصبح الخيال وسيلة لملء الفراغ، ولخلق مساحة حيث كان هناك فقد.
"ما تبقى" لا يقدم كحكاية واحدة متماسكة، بل يتنقل بين أزمنة ومشاعر متباينة—بين ما يدوم، وما يتغيّر، وما يجب تخيله. يدعونا المعرض للتفكير في هشاشة الذاكرة وتحوّلاتها، وكيف تُصان، وتُقطع، ويُعاد تركيبها عبر الأجيال والمساحات. ما الذي ينجو من عبور الزمن؟ ومن يقرر ما يُتذكَّر، وكيف؟​

​Someone Else’s Home by publista (born in Nagoya, Japan, currently based in Cairo, Egypt) accentuates the unnoticed in everyday life: a mundane street view, an abandoned chair, a random passer-by. Steering away from the focal points of world heritage in the tourism industry, publista recomposes the lesser-known wonders and uncovers the overlooked excitement in Egypt.
 
Photos are transferred onto or attached to found objects familiar to those in Cairo, evoking dynamic materiality that transcends the frame. This combination highlights a stark contrast between the Japanese value of minimalism reflected in the imagery, and the bustling Egyptian society symbolised by the object. Someone Else’s Home references ordinary elements and scenes that, through the lens of the artist, transform into a fascinating intersection of light, geometry, ambiguity and reimagination.

About the Artist: publista/Rui Yasue (born in Nagoya, Japan, currently based in Cairo, Egypt) is an artist whose practice spans lens-based and text-based media. His multi-disciplinary approach is intertwined with extensive journalistic experience in Egypt, Palestine, and Iraq, as well as experience in commercial photography and videography in Japan and France. Central to his artistic practice is a juxtaposition of universality and individuality, underlining stereotypes, identity and power relations. He invites audience to engage with a common ground shared with the unexpected ‘other’. In particular, his work subverts the prevailing constructed ideas about the Middle East.

معرض فردي ضمن أسبوع القاهرة للصورة بالتعاون مع فوتوبيا

ما يراه البعض عادياً قد يراه آخرون استثنائياً، خاصةً عندما يتعلق الأمر بما نراه في منازل الآخرين. يُؤطّر هذا العمل ما لا يُلاحظ: الكرسي المتروك على الرصيف، وهندسة المباني الهادئة، والدفاتر المصنوعة يدوياً.

بعيداً عن بؤرة التراث العالمي في قطاع السياحة، يُعيد الفنان تركيب عجائب مصر التي لا تُناقش كثيراً. في محاولة لكشف الإثارة المُغفَلة في المجتمع المصري، يُحوّل العمل الأشياء والمشاهد العادية إلى جماليات استثنائية من الظل والشكل والغموض والتشويه.
 
عن الفنان: روي ياسوي (مواليد ناغويا، اليابان، ١٩٨٤، ويقيم حاليًا في مصر) فنان يجمع بين التطوير البصري والنصي. يتداخل نهجه الإبداعي متعدد التخصصات مع خبراته السابقة كصحفي مستقل في مصر وفلسطين والعراق لوسائل إعلام يابانية، بالإضافة إلى عمله كمصور تجاري في اليابان وفرنسا. منذ عام ٢٠١٠، أقام روي معارض في أماكن تجارية ومعارض فنية ومؤسسات عامة. يرتكز روي في ممارسته الفنية على الجمع بين العالمية والفردية، بهدف إبراز الصور النمطية والهوية وعلاقات القوى. تكشف مشاريعه التمكينية المحلية، التي تتضمن مقابلات مع سكان محليين، عن جوانب المدن غير المثيرة للجدل تقليديًا. من خلال التراكيب الخطية المُركبة بعناية، والتباين الواضح بين الضوء والظل، يتساءل عن صحة التفرد المُدرك، ويدعو الجمهور إلى استكشاف أرضية مشتركة مع "الآخر" غير المتوقع. وبشكل خاص، يُقوّض عمله الأفكار السائدة حول الشرق الأوسط.

​This exhibition draws a parallel between mechanical systems and the human psyche through the concept of 'exploitation'. By juxtaposing the roles of mechanics and psychiatrists in his life, the artist reflects on how both professions can capitalize on dependency mechanics by convincing clients of the need for continuous repairs and replacements, and psychiatrists, as experienced by the artist, by prolonging treatment for financial gain.  
At the core of this exploration is the artist’s relationship with motorcycle engines, which consistently fail him, demanding constant maintenance and repair. This ongoing cycle of breakdown and dependency serves as a metaphor for the human experience, our own psychological and emotional struggles, moments of inadequacy, and the recurring need for self-restoration.  
Through this body of work, the artist questions the fragility of both man and machine, reflecting on how systems, whether mechanical or psychological, can be manipulated, and how the human condition mirrors the vulnerability of the very machines we rely upon.

About the artist: Osama Ehab is a visual artist born in Cairo in 2002. He currently lives and works in Cairo, where he is studying Art Education. Osama expresses himself through various experimental techniques, including drawing, painting, and monoprinting, on a variety of materials. He participated in numerous group exhibitions and art initiatives across Cairo and Alexandria, including "Plage Champollion" at Access Art Space, "The Bastet Project" with Art D’Egypte, "Agenda" at Bibliotheca Alexandrina, "READY-MADE PATTERNS" group exhibition at Ard gallery 2023, "VALLEY OF WALLS" exhibition as a creative production 2023, "Roznama 9" where he won the Ubuntu Art Gallery Award, and "Gen Z" at Shelter Art Gallery.

أندل منفلة" للفنان أسامة إيهاب"

يدور هذا المعرض حول المقارنة بين الأنظمة الميكانيكية والنفس البشرية من خلال مفهوم "الاستغلال". من خلال مقارنة أدوار الميكانيكيين والأطباء النفسيين في حياة الفنان، يتأمل الفنان كيف يمكن لكلا المهنتين الاستفادة من آليات الاعتماد على الآخرين من خلال إقناع العملاء بالحاجة إلى إصلاحات واستبدالات مستمرة، وكيف يمكن للأطباء النفسيين -كما اختبر- إطالة أمد العلاج لتحقيق مكاسب مالية.
في صميم هذا الاستكشاف، تكمن علاقة الفنان بمحركات الدراجات النارية، التي تخذله باستمرار، وتتطلب صيانة وإصلاحات مستمرة. تجسد هذه الدورة المستمرة من الأعطال التجربة الإنسانية، بصراعاتها النفسية والعاطفية، ولحظات القصور، والحاجة المتكررة إلى استعادة الذات.
من خلال هذا العمل، يتساءل الفنان عن هشاشة كل من الإنسان والآلة، متأملاً في كيفية التلاعب بالأنظمة، سواء كانت ميكانيكية أو نفسية، وكيف تعكس الحالة الإنسانية ضعف الآلات نفسها التي نعتمد عليها.

عن الفنان: أسامة إيهاب فنان تشكيلي ولد في القاهرة عام ٢٠٠٢. يقيم ويعمل حالياً بها، حيث يدرس في كلية التربية الفنية. يعبر أسامة عن نفسه من خلال تقنيات تجريبية متنوعة، تشمل الرسم والتصوير والمونو برينت على مواد متنوعة. شارك في العديد من المعارض الجماعية والمبادرات الفنية بين القاهرة والإسكندرية، بما في ذلك المعرض الجماعي "بلاج شامبليون" في مساحة أكسس آرت، "مشروع باستيت" مع آرت ديجيبت، "أجندة" بمكتبة الإسكندرية، "مضخة" معرض جماعي بالجامعة الأمريكية بالتحرير، ساهم كمنتِج فني في معرض "وادي الجدران"، "روزناما ٩" وحاز على جائزة معرض أوبونتو للفنون، معرض "جين Z" في جاليري شيلتر للفنون.

My Favorite Things started in 2016 as a small group exhibition, showing the artworks of 3 chosen women artists; featured by Mashrabia as the revelation of the season. In due course, “My Favorite Things” became an inclusive
annual exhibition promoting and supporting up and coming women artists in Egypt. Its main aim is to guarantee for women to have a permanent and safe space, for exposure and free expression, maintaining a high artistic quality
based on originality and innovative thought. There is no restriction to themes, as we seek authentic artwork that is most true, essentially reflecting subjects of great importance to the artists. This year's selection features 18 female
artists: Abeer Mohamed, Amira Hamdy, Donia Hassan, Farida Mahdy, Habiba El Gazzar, Hadia Rashwan, Hager El Sayed, Hala Mostafa, Hanna Gawad, Mariam El Sersawy, Mariam Maher, Miray Ishak, Mona Hamdy, Nouran Zayed, Ohood Osman, Roula Heshmat, Sarah Zaki, and Souhila Ebrahim, most of them participating for the first time. Their contributions give us a refreshing idea about what is contemporary art now in Egypt.

​يسعدنا بقاعة المشربية للفن المعاصر استضافة معرضنا "أشيائي المفضلة " لثامن سنة على التوالي مع مجموعة من الفنانات، حيث بدأ معرض أشيائي المفضلة كمعرض صغير في 2016 يضم ثلاثة من الأعمال المختارة لثلاثة فنانات
إلا أنه مع مرور الوقت تطور إلى أن أصبح معرض هدفه الأساسي دعم و إعطاء مساحة آمنة للفنانات للتعبير عن رأيهم وما يؤمنون به.
المعرض لا يقتصر على مواضيع محددة بل يطمح لعرض أعمال صادقة تعكس كل ما هو مهم لكل فنانة.

This exhibition, entitled “Nothing to prove”, presents a rather eclectic range of works, varying in themes, formats, and techniques. Revisiting old themes, the exhibition features small watercolors, acrylic paintings, and large oil paintings on canvas. The themes vary widely, from a series of characters holding icons with a pharaonic air, to forest landscapes, and compositions of bathers basking in the full sun.

Xavier Puigmartí lives and works between the Fayoum’s oasis in Egypt and Barcelona (Spain), where he was born in 1952. Fundamentally a painter, his art production also spans audiovisual creation and animation. He has held several exhibitions worldwide, such as in Switzerland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and Egypt.

​ما لا يمكن إثباته" للفنان خافيير بويجمارتي"

​يقدم هذا المعرض، الذي يحمل عنوان "ما لا يمكن إثباته"، مجموعة منتقاة من الأعمال، تتنوع في المواضيع والأشكال والتقنيات. من خلال إعادة النظر في الموضوعات القديمة، يضم المعرض ألواناً مائية صغيرة ولوحات أكريليك ولوحات زيتية كبيرة على القماش. تختلف الموضوعات بشكل كبير، بدءاًمن سلسلة الشخصيات التي تحمل أيقونات ذات طابع فرعوني، إلى المناظر الطبيعية للغابات، وتركيبات السباحين الذين يستمتعون بأشعة الشمس الكاملة.

يعيش خافيير بويجمارتي ويعمل بين واحة الفيوم في مصر وبرشلونة (إسبانيا)، ولد عام 1952. وهو رسام في الأساس، ويمتد إنتاجه الفني أيضاً إلى الفن السمعي البصري والرسوم المتحركة. أقام العديد من المعارض في جميع أنحاء العالم، مثل سويسرا وفرنسا وألمانيا وهولندا وإسبانيا وجنوب أفريقيا ومصر.
