The idea firstly sparkled while I was working as a painter in a villa in the Fifth District area at New Cairo City.
This experience gave me the chance to notice that the prevailing public taste in the selection of decorations and paintings of Egyptian homes was similar in all the social and cultural levels, being mainly the classical landscape and subjects inspired by the classics characterized by a hue of mystery: the logic, the nature of the colors often do not reflect a specific time or place. Thus, the observer perceives a sort of non-temporal and non-spatial condition.
Furthermore, since 2008, I have been working on a project on the TV image as visual and conceptual source. This gave me the chance of exploring the construction and the relationship between the news written strips, the announcements, and the images in the background, which I re-drafted in drawings.
Links began to arise between the landscapes in classical paintings and the TV images I had seen. And I began to build dramatic scenes with characters in a series of mysterious paintings. Ahmed Sabry

التجمع الخامس
بدأت الفكرة حين كنت أعمل رساماً بإحدى الفيلات في منطقة التجمع الخامس بالقاهرة. أنا أمارس هذا العمل من حين لآخر، منذ كنت أدرُس بالجامعة، وقد لاحظت طوال ممارستي هذا العمل، أن الذوق العام السائد، في اختيار الديكورات واللوحات الفنية بالمنازل المصرية، ثابت ومصادره واحدة ومتشابهة إلى حد كبير، وعلى جميع المستويات الاجتماعية والثقافية، حيث تعتبر لوحات المناظر الطبيعية الكلاسيكية، أو تلك المستوحاة من الكلاسيكيات، هي أكثر ما يهتم به الناس، فنياً، داخل منازلهم. علاوة على ذلك، إذا نظرنا إلى الطرز المعمارية للمنازل، بمناطق المدن الجديدة، نجدها مزيجاً من طرز معمارية كلاسيكية، غالباً ما تكون مشوهة أو غير ملتزمة بالقيم الجمالية والمعمارية للطرز التي استوحت أشكالها منها. إنها ليست سوى شيء شبيه بها. أرى دائماً غموضاً في لوحات المناظر الطبيعية الكلاسيكية أو لوحات عصر النهضة ومنطق المنظر الطبيعي داخل تلك اللوحات وطبيعة ألوانها وتكويناتها، والتي غالباً لا تعبّر عن زمان أو مكان محدّديْن. نحن نلمس الحس الزمني داخل هذه اللوحات لأننا نعرف سلفاً أنها قديمة، ولكنها لا تعطينا معلومات محددة عن الزمن، بل تعطينا، أو تعطيني أنا شخصياً، نوعاً من الغموض اللا زماني واللا مكاني. منذ عام ٢٠٠٨ وأنا أعمل على مشروع مطول يتعلق بالصورة التليفزيونية كمصدر بصري ومفاهيمي، شكل بنائها وعلاقة شرائط الأخبار والإعلانات المكتوبة وحتى ترجمة الأفلام، بالصور التي في الخلفية، خاصةً حين تُثبَّت هذه الصورة، فأعيدُ أنا صياغتها في لوحاتٍ مرسومة. بدأ ينشأ رابط بين هذه المناظر الطبيعية الموجودة في اللوحات الكلاسيكية، والتي تملأ منازل الكثير من الناس بكل طبقاتهم الاجتماعية، وبين مناظر الأفلام التي كنت أشاهدها، وبدأتُ في بناء مشاهد تحمل طابعاً درامياً غامضاً في مجموعة من اللوحات
