My favorite things started in 2016 as a small group exhibition, showing the artworks of 3 chosen women artists; featured by Mashrabia as the revelation of the season. In due course, My favorite things became an inclusive annual exhibition promoting and supporting up and coming women artists in Egypt.

Its main aim is to guarantee for women to have a permanent and safe space, for exposure and free expression, maintaining a high artistic quality based on originality and innovative thought. There is no restriction to themes, as we seek authentic artwork that is most true, essentially reflecting subjects of great importance to the artists.

إن لم تضئ المرأة ذاتها بذاتها في لحظة استثنائية، فمن يقدر على ذلك؟ يحمل المعرض التشكيلي الجماعي "كل شيء عنها" (All About Her) في القاهرة بتنظيم غاليري "المشربية" بالتعاون مع "SheArt" (آذار/مارس 2026)، عنوانًا معبّرًا دالًّا، ففيه تتلاقى أصابع مجموعة من الفنانات المصريات النابهات من أجيال مختلفة لتقديم "كل شيء" يخص الـ"هي" أو "الذات الأنثوية"، بكامل طاقتها الحيوية، وكل تفجراتها المتوهجة. 

يتحقق ذلك الهدف من المعرض وفق رؤى جمالية متفوقة، وحصيلة اجتماعية تنويرية، حيث يضطلع الفنانات بالانتصار لقيمة الإبداع التشكيلي المجرد بوسائطه المتنوعة من جهة، وإعلاء شأن المرأة وحضورها الإنساني ودورها الفاعل من جهة أخرى

Mashrabia Gallery of Contemporary Art is pleased to present Magnificent creatures, a solo exhibition by Egyptian artist Marwan El Gamal, on view from 11/1/2026 to 12/2/2026 at Mashrabia Gallery in Cairo.
Magnificent creatures explores the presence of vast, indifferent beings that disrupt human perceptions of reality. Rendered through a refined oil-on-canvas technique, these figures embody both aspiration and fear, existing beyond human approval or acknowledgment. Their beauty is undeniable, yet their detachment evokes a quiet unease, inviting viewers to confront their own sense of scale, vulnerability, and significance.

I have recently been preoccupied with how artists in Egypt develop within the country’s institutional landscape, returning to basic questions such as: what makes good art good? Does it require latent meaning? Or can meaning emerge through encounter? My instinct is that good art comes from a cultivated mind.

Essam Alaa’s solo exhibition, The Knife and the Apple, at Mashrabia offered a thread to pull. On my way there, I had been discussing books with an artist friend, toying with the idea of interviewing artists about their favourite texts. A way of tracing the intellectual libraries shaping contemporary practice. At the opening, I asked Alaa the same question. He mentioned Baudelaire, Verlaine, and Taha Hussein; he used to write himself. A self-taught artist working between Cairo and Paris for the past decade, and raised in Bulaq El-Dakror, Alaa approaches painting as an act of mental liberation. His compositions embody a childlike sense of discovery.

It is within these lines by Baudelaire that the Essam’s work finds its origin and strength. Their paradoxes and strangeness resonate deeply with the hidden forces of the artist’s imagination. They speak of contradiction, duality, and the eternal tension between submission and rebellion themes that pulse through the Essam’s canvases.

What remains? brings together three artists--Fatma Abodoma, Farah ElMoatassem, & Melanie Partamian—whose works emerge from personal geographies and fragmented archives. Moving between memory, identity, and space, the exhibition unfolds across three interconnected spaces: the constant, the transitional, and the reimagined.

يستضيف جاليري مشربية بالقاهرة هذا المعرض الذي يدور حول المقارنة بين الأنظمة الميكانيكية والنفس البشرية من خلال مفهوم“الاستغلال“. هناك مقارنة بين أدوار الميكانيكيين والأطباء النفسيين في حياة الفنان، يتأمل أسامة إيهاب  كيف يمكن لكلا المهنتين الاستفادةمن آليات الاعتماد على الآخرين من خلال إقناع العملاء بالحاجة إلى إصلاحات واستبدالات مستمرة، وكيف يمكن للأطباء النفسيين –كمااختبر– إطالة أمد العلاج لتحقيق مكاسب مالية.

Mashrabia has a storied history in Cairo, representing several notable contemporary Egyptian artists including Adel El Siwi and Ahmed Askalany. The gallery is featuring several interesting works at Art Cairo, some of which touch upon aspects of daily life within the city.

​سنوات تمر تأخذ معها- أحيانًا- البهجة، وتتوارى ضحكة مستمرة مليحة، لاجدال في برائتها، وشعر مجعد مُسترسل، وتأتي إليك بقناع صنعته تلك السنين، بين الهدوء ومسحة حزن، من فعل التعامل اليومي.. وجه رغب في «التسامح والإنسجام» ليتقبل الحياة كما هي، ويتعايش مع كائناتها، وعلى رأسها «الإنسان»، في محاولة للوصول إلى ما هو مفطور عليه من خير، بعد أن تخلي عن الإنسحاق تحت ضغط سرعة عالية، نعيشها جميعًا.. وهو ما عضد لدى الفنانة التشكيلية «سحر درغام» فعل التأمل والمراقبة للماحول والماوراء.. فكما تقول: «وإذا بسطح العمل ماهو إلا مرادف للبرية والطبيعة بتحضيرات تجريبية للألوان؛ وإذا بتنوع من الرسوم لكائنات تتعايش وتتواءم على السطح؛ ما بين المرح واللعب، وما بين تقبل العجز والإختلاف، وما بين شخوص ذات إرادة للعمل ورغبة في
إنتاج السعادة، ما بين التلاحم بين الإنسان والحيوان».

L’artiste égypto-yéménite Amr Al-Ngmah combine miniatures arabes et héros de jeux vidéo. Son exposition à Mashrabia est une chevauchée amusante, nous promenant parmi de petites scènes de jeux, entre passé et présent.
