Sarah Zaki’s work explores the instability of identity in today’s social environment, where perception often outweighs reality and the self becomes something constantly negotiated, shaped, distorted, or silenced by society’s stories. Inspired by German Expressionism, she uses distorted forms, intense color, and theatrical gestures to surface emotional tension. Her fragmented, mask-like figures reveal the performative, constructed nature of visibility.
This exhibition brings together paintings and bronze sculptures to express different registers of emotional and psychological intensity. Rather than offering fixed interpretations, each piece acts as a psychological sketch, a trace of feeling or transformation. Emotions are treated as raw, shifting material within broader social realities. Though rooted in personal experience, the work invites reflection on how we are seen and how we see. It doesn’t demand resolution; it opens space for engagement.
There is no fixed message or stable identity, just visual propositions that move between thought and feeling. Ambiguity is intentional, even when meaning eludes the artist. At its core, her practice is an ongoing search for what it means to exist within a body, an identity, and a world that demands coherence. But the self drifts, fragments, and contradicts. Her work holds the pieces up to the light, without seeking resolution.
About the Artist: Sarah Zaki, an Italo-Egyptian visual artist, was born in Pietrasanta, Italy, in 1991 and later relocated to Cairo, where she pursued studies in Marketing and International Business. With a lifelong passion for drawing, she deepened her artistic practice at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, where she specialized in Painting.
Working across a variety of mediums—photography, sculpture, graphic design, and painting—Sarah gravitates toward oil and acrylic techniques to explore themes of identity, culture, and emotion. Her art often centers on female figures and portraits, reflecting the layered complexities of womanhood as influenced by her multicultural upbringing.
After spending four years in Berlin, an experience that broadened her creative perspective, Sarah returned to Cairo in 2022 to fully dedicate herself to her studio practice.

يستكشف عمل سارة زكي هشاشة الهوية في السياق الاجتماعي المعاصر، حيث تطغى التصورات على الواقع وتصبح "الذات" مساحة دائمة للتفاوض. تهتم بالفجوة بين التجربة الداخلية والتوقعات الخارجية وكيف تتشكل الحقيقة الشخصية أو تتشوه أو يُسكَت عنها من خلال السرديات التي يفرضها المجتمع.
تستلهم في عملها من التعبيرية الألمانية، وتوظّف المبالغة البصرية من خلال الأشكال المشوّهة، الألوان المشبعة، والإيماءات المسرحية لكشف التوتر العاطفي على سطح اللوحة. غالباً ما تظهر الشخصيات التي تصوّرها بشكل مقنّع أو مجزأ، لتعكس التناقضات وتعقيد الهوية تحت المراقبة الاجتماعية. هذه الأقنعة لا تُخفي، بل تُظهر الطبيعة الأدائية والمصطنعة لكيفية رؤيتنا لذواتنا.
يتضمن هذا المعرض مجموعة من اللوحات والتماثيل البرونزية، لا يسعى عملها إلى تقديم تفسير واحد، بل يحتفي بالتناقض. كل عمل بمثابة مسودة نفسية أقرب إلى أثر شعور أو تحوّل داخلي منه إلى بورتريه ثابت. المشاعر لا تُجمَّل أو تُزيَّن، بل تُعامَل كمادة خام، حيّة ومتحركة، ومرتبطة ببُنى اجتماعية أوسع. ورغم أن العمل ينطلق من تجربة شخصية، إلا أنه يفتح المجال أمام المتلقي للتأمل في طرق الرؤية والانكشاف. لا يفرض استنتاجات أو أجوبة، بل يدعو إلى التفاعل والمشاركة.
لا توجد رسالة نهائية أو هوية ثابتة هنا، بل مقترحات بصرية تتحرك بين الفكر والشعور. الغموض مقصود، حتى وإن استعصى معناه أحياناً على الفنانة نفسها.
في جوهر ممارستها، تنطلق الفنانة في بحث مستمر حول معنى الوجود داخل الجسد والهوية والعالم الذي يفرض علينا الاتساق والانصياع.
