Magnificent Creatures imagines radiant invincible beings whose beauty dazzles and their indifference chills. They stand on our shoulders and hover behind the unseen wall, arriving with force, slicing through our world. Nothing resists them; nothing concerns them. Dancing and howling, they are seductive and mesmerizing. Beneath the ornament and dance lies a calm that is vast and unmoved. Their bodies bloom with iridescent color and swirl into impossible architectures, shifting ecosystems that unfold and collapse. Their presence alone reshapes everything around them. They are beautiful and bewitching, you want to praise them and sing their songs but they do not notice. They cut through our fears and desires like light passing through water. They represent what we long for and everything we dread. Their conflicts and celebrations and rituals are not for us. Everlasting, enormous, ecstatic, alive and indifferent.
Working in oil on canvas, the work is created through slow revisions, and forms that appear and dissolve and eventually reform into their final state.
This series invites viewers to meet these cosmic giants as Marwan meet them: with fascination, fear and a willingness to see behind the veil and into this dark sky, of what does not need our approval to exist.
About the Artist: Born in 1990, Marwan El Gamal is an Egyptian contemporary artist. His interdisciplinary practice spans painting, animation, and text with an interest in depicting the loss of the familiar through imagined storytelling and alternate remembrance. Interested in the driving of culture and how images, stories, and traditions instill identity, he seeks to explore coherent narratives of the identity of the self and society by disrupting these anchor points of recognition as he draws from history, mythology, pop culture, archetypes, and personal memory.
Invoking the mysterious, the uncanny, and otherworldly, his work depicts realms outside of recognizable locations and time, alternative maps for the viewer to experience novel connections with themselves and the world. The work seeks to place an indefiniteness to events where change is constant, addressing contradiction, resolution, familiarity, and foreignness.

تتخيل ”كائنات مدهشة” كائنات متألقة لا تقهر، تبهج العين بجمالها وتثير الرعب بلا مبالاته. تقف على أكتافنا وتحوم خلف الجدار غير المرئي، تصل بقوة ويخترق عالمنا. لا شيء يقاومها؛ لا شيء يهمها. ترقص وتصرخ، فهي مغرية وساحرة. تحت الزخرفة والرقص يكمن هدوء شاسع وثابت. تزهر أجسادها بألوان قزحية وتدور في هياكل معمارية مستحيلة، وتغير النظم البيئية التي تتكشف وتنهار. وجودها وحده يعيد تشكيل كل شيء من حولها. إنها جميلة ومثيرة، وتريد أن تمدحها وتغني أغانيها، لكنها لا تلاحظ ذلك. تخترق مخاوفنا ورغباتنا مثل الضوء الذي يمر عبر الماء. إنها تمثل ما نشتاق إليه وكل ما نخشاه. صراعاتها واحتفالاتها وطقوسها ليست لنا. أبدية، هائلة، منتشية، حية، وغير مبالية.
تم إنشاء العمل بالزيت على قماش، من خلال مراجعات بطيئة، وأشكال تظهر وتختفي وتشكل في النهاية شكلها النهائي.
تدعو هذه السلسلة المشاهدين إلى مقابلة هؤلاء العمالقة الكونين كما يقابلهم مروان: بانبهار وخوف ورغبة في رؤية ما وراء الحجاب وفي هذا السماء المظلمة، لما لا يحتاج إلى موافقتنا لكي يوجد.
عن الفنان: مواليد 1990، مروان الجمال فنان مصري معاصر. تمتد ممارسته متعددة التخصصات لتشمل الرسم والرسوم المتحركة والنص، مع اهتمام بتصوير فقدان المألوف من خلال سرد القصص الخيالية والذكريات البديلة. مهتمًا بدوافع الثقافة وكيف تغرس الصور والقصص والتقاليد الهوية، يسعى إلى استكشاف روايات متماسكة عن هوية الذات والمجتمع من خلال تعطيل نقاط الارتكاز هذه للتعرف، حيث يستمد من التاريخ والأساطير والثقافة الشعبية والأر خيتي بايت والذاكرة الشخصية.
