A project led by artist Hala El Koussy, FOTOMASR is a growing archive of photographic images from Egypt from the late 19th century to the end of the 20th century, available in digital form for researchers, professional and non-professionals alike. FOTOMASR shares part of its collection as the first in a series of printed albums on different topics. While an album is no more than an organizational container, it has a potential to expand. This endeavour aims at highlighting the historical, social and aesthetic value of a photograph as well as a garnering interest in finding more effective alternatives for the preservation and dissemination of the photographic heritage of Egypt.
