Ahmed El Shaer
Ahmed El Shaer was born in 1981 in Cairo, where he currently lives and works. He is a multi-disciplinary artist (installation, photography, sound, video), with a particular interest in digital technologies, as his videos combine Machinima, stock footage, 3D animation and experimental soundscapes.
He has a BFA form Helwan University (2002) and then continued his studies obtaining a Certificate of Video Game/Video Art from the Summer Academy for Fine art at Salzburg-Austria and a Certificate of Video Art By the artist Vale Export, from the same academy. Furthermore, he is a co-founder of “Cairo Documenta” and founder and director of “Tolon Studio for Contemporary Art”, an individual company, non-profit organization devoted to contemporary arts.
His work has been highlighted in numerous exhibitions and festivals locally and abroad in countries such as Canada, USA, Mali, Switzerland Germany and Denmark.
He is the recipient of numerous awards and has participated in several residency programs, such as Art Omi Artist-in-Residence New York, USA, the Pro Helvetia Artist-in-Residence cycle (Zurich, Switzerland, 2009) and the Summer Academy of Fine Arts (Salzburg, Austria, 2006 and 2007).
